Having Your Word Prevail: Leadership Integrity (Part 2)

A Series. In this series we will investigate and discover what it takes, as a Leader, to have the word you’ve given to the future PREVAIL.

Being patient with yourself on the way to being your word is another critical aspect of fulfilling on a created future. In working with clients, it has become apparent that although transformation can happen in a moment, results sometimes take time and produce unforeseen fall out of broken processes and may require new procedures.

This is where lacks of integrity can start to sneak up on a leader. One minute you have it all worked out and the next, you’re overwhelmed by tasks you didn’t consider when creating your new future.

I recently had a client that created a new future in the number of clients she was going to sell her services to.  She said she would increase her client base by two new clients per month. This was going to be an exponential breakthrough for her as she had not been focused on sales at all and had only previously been concentrating on servicing her existing clients to a high level.

Her plan to reach new people and sell her services was a solid one and she immediately got into action, reaching out to people she knew and sharing unabashedly about her services.  As people began to get interested in her offerings and she did in fact increase her client workload, she began to lack integrity in the processes and systems put in place to ensure she would provide the same high level of service.

She had not considered how keeping her word in one area would require new systems and procedures in another. While it was wonderful to produce such fantastic results in her sales efforts, lacking integrity with the delivery of her services was not ok with her. This is where it really works to have patience with ourselves when our integrity starts lacking.  As soon as you notice, begin tending to the fall out of this breakthrough in performance without any invalidation of yourself or others.

It may be time to add some help, update a system or alter our schedules to include time for things like updating the database, keeping and filing notes, returning the onslaught of incoming messages from a viable marketing campaign etc.

Keeping your word in a period of growth will require a high amount of intentionality, a robust existence system, and an empowering context (patience). When you see an area that is lacking, simply restore it or revoke that promise, but definitely notice and celebrate the win emphatically! You are someone that can create the future with your word and remember, this is what it looks like when its working!
