Start from the future
An effective Strategy is crafted from the future, where Transformational Leaders want the company to be. Pick a date in the future and stand there, on that date, and imagine what has been created. These will be the outcomes the company is striving for. From there the team can look back and see what steps would have been taken to arrive at the goal or outcomes achieved.
Once a Transformational Leaders sees where the company will be in a created future, he or she can plan actions to support the team in achieving those outcomes. The process is similar to planning a road trip. Once you know where you are going, then you can look at the map to plan for rest stops and perhaps a few fun excursions along the way. You know when you need to leave, what is it going to take to get there, and milestones to ensure you are making appropriate progress. In the same way, establishing a Strategy from the future allows Leaders to see the path forward.
